4 HELD IN DENMARK ON CHARGES OF SUPPLYING EXPLOSIVES FOR PLANNED EUROPEAN TERROR ATTACK:

  • EX-SPY CHIEF LINKS SUSPECTS IN DENMARK TO U. RADICAL” – Associated Press (AP) – The International Herald Tribune – The New York Times Company – Neuilly-sur-Seine, France – 25 August 2006
    Summary:
Four Muslim men aged 17 to 24 have been charged in Copenhagen, Denmark with supplying explosives to be used in a planned terror attack on Europe. The charges come in connection to a Bosnian terror investigation which has also yielded arrests in Britain. The four men had been under surveillance for two years — ever since they met with Omar Bakri Mohammed, a radical Islamic cleric/leader in London. Bakri, was once the leader of the defunct radical Islamic group al-Muhajiroun. Bakri had lived in London for 20 years, and is barred from returning to England. He is now living in Lebanon and the AP points out that he is not a suspect in this investigation. Authorities in Denmark were tipped off to the men in connection with the arrests of Mirsad Bektasevic and Abdulkadir Cesur in Sarajevo last October on suspicion that the men were planning an attack. All together 12 people are facing charges; 3 in Britain, 3 in Bosnia, the 4 mentioned in Denmark, as well as the 2 mentioned arrested in Sarajevo. Both the suspects held in Denmark and Sarajevo have maintained their innocence. More details are available in the article.
